The Japan Business Federation (Keidanren) moves the start of its members’ job screenings for university students two months earlier.

Keidanren is the most influential economic organization in Japan. It has more than one thousand members composed of companies, associations, and regional organizations. Its members follow a recruitment schedule wherein they can interview and process applications of undergraduate  students.

After the previous revision of its recruitment guidelines, proposals to review the terms for a second consecutive year was on the table again. Last year, Keidanren already moved the start of recruitment from April to August in response to the government’s request. However, this change caused problems and issues because some companies started recruiting earlier than August.

Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Hiroshi Hase expressed his opinion about the proposed changes. He commented that adjusting the schedule immediately after it was amended last year might not be a good move. Some committee members also suggested to delay the changes. However, the loud cry from the majority of the members resulted in a speedy execution of the proposal.

During the review, Keidanren took into consideration the framework of the current system as they try to address the major issues surrounding it. And earlier in November, Keidanren officially announced that it will already allow its member companies to start their recruitment drives in June instead of August. This will be implemented in 2016.
